Crime
Instructed to prosecute and defend a full range of Crown Court criminal matters across the Midlands, including serious offences of violence and public disorder, all types of dishonesty, drug offences and money laundering. Has also dealt with such cases at appellate level. Experienced in prosecuting cases brought by the Department of Work and Pensions, and by HM Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office.
Accustomed to dealing with clients who are vulnerable and /or difficult by reason of mental illness or mental disability.
Recent and notable instructions have included :
- Defended an accountant in a £5 million mortgage fraud. Issues of professional negligence and allegations of witness intimidation.
- Defended in multi-handed conspiracy to breach immigration law. Sham marriages arranged for non-EU immigrants. Cross-jurisdictional issues.
- Successfully prosecuted large benefit fraud trial and then confiscation order application for DWP involving complex legal argument.
- Defended Royal Mail employee in large scale post office fraud.
- Successfully defended 17 year old girl accused of aiding and abetting rape.
- Appeared without leading counsel in manslaughter case involving use of firearms.
- Defended in £1.2 million conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
- Represented youth with learning difficulties accused of a stranger rape. Complex factual issues of mitochrondrial DNA and cell site analysis.
- Represented principal defendant in conspiracy to commit armed robbery of several supermarkets across the Midlands.
- Defended principal elderly defendant in multi-handed rape case with several complainants.
Licensing
Extensive experience in alcohol and entertainment licensing cases : has appeared for national breweries, pub management companies, fast food chains, local authorities and small traders across the country before local authority committees, Magistrates’ Courts and the Crown Court.
Costs
Has been instructed to represent both claimants and defendants in costs litigation, on a nationwide basis, and has particular expertise in detailed assessment hearings.
