Simon Rippon defends teenager for riot burglary

Simon Rippon of Citadel Chambers has represented a teenager who stole two left-footed trainers from a looted shop during a riot.

The teenager was sentenced to ten months in a Young Offenders' Institution after being caught on CCTV entering the premises and emerging 10 seconds later with the trainers after watching the shop being looted. Passing sentence, His Honour Judge Warner was reported as saying that it was the shortest sentence he could pass consistent with his public duty.
