Man jailed for attempting to incite widespread disorder using Facebook

Thursday 15th December 2011

A man who created a group on Facebook called 'Letz Start a Riot' has been jailed for 30 months after admitting using the site to encourage widespread disorder in Worcester.

Abigail Nixon represented the man who was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court by Mr Justice Butterfield. The man claimed only to have created the page as a joke but comments that were left on it included some berating people for not getting involved in the August riots. Passing sentence, Mr Justice Butterfield said: "This is a very serious offence committed in the context of riots which took place across the country" and that he would be failing in his public duty if he did not impose a substantial custodial sentence.
