Daniel White chairs RFU Disciplinary Panel in Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu Twitter case

Wednesday 16th November 2011

Daniel White, Head of the Sports Law group at Citadel Chambers, has chaired the RFU disciplinary panel looking into comments made by Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu on Twitter.

The Samoa and Gloucester player Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu was banned for three weeks after being found guilty of two charges of making "critical or sarcastic comments" about the rugby disciplinary process, World Cup and International Rugby Board, conduct which was deemed prejudicial to the interests of the Game and contrary to the Rules of the Rugby Football Union.

The Panel dismissed a further charge of making or adopting from other users of Twitter, insulting or provocative comments about Owen Farrell.

The Panel stressed that it was a matter for the IRB to determine whether the actions of Fuimaono-Sapolu constituted a breach of a suspended sentence imposed on 15 October 2011.
